On the left is a 1957 Ford Jubilee that I restored in May of 2010. This is one of my sideline hobbies. She was bought to junk but I felt she had potential. Many of these will able to be viewed on my new tractor site later this year whereas I own 60 of these old antique tractors.

Top right is is a 1957 Allis Chalmers CA Model that I fully restored July of 2011. I am very proud of this one whereas she was all beat to heck and was destined to be junked. So you know, each one will take between 100 to 180 hours to do.

This is my 1949 John Deere 'M' series tractor just restored November/2012.

                              LATEST BBB RECORDED INFORMATION

It gives me great pleasure to post this since it has been a hard climb up the Firewood Ladder of recognition. As of checking the latest info on the Nova Scotia Better Business Bureau site, I find we are one of the few premier Firewood Suppliers in the Province of Nova Scotia supplying the areas from the Valley to HRM & surrounding areas within 100 miles of Kentville/New Minas Nova Scotia. And the best is, of all of the Firewood Producers, WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH A 5 STAR RATING.

My credentials are pretty simple being registered with the Better Business Bureau & having an A FIVE STAR RATING, A-PLUS ACCREDITED Status, 100% Customer Referral and Consumer Rating & of all the businesses selling Firewood in Nova Scotia, the ONLY BUSINESS WITH A 5 STAR RATING in the BBB in relation to the Firewood Industry. Do check us out under Customer and Consumer Reviews and see what you are missing by NOT buying wood from us. Each year we do send out an Updated Email flyer on specials and info worth the read if you buy Firewood. However, if you are in our local area, do Email me at: d2b@xcountry.tv for your free copy or at one of the addresses on the blog. We sell only three things here being QUALITY, HONESTY & PROPER CORDS, and here, none of the foolishness related to the so called 'Unit Measurement' being about 3/4's on average of a proper cord,  and  IS NOT a recognised cord in any way, as well as falling way short of 128 cubic feet.

JANUARY 15th, 2015 UPDATE:

I am pleased to announce that we are now an ACCREDITED BUSINESS under the Nova Scotia Better Business Bureau as well as an ACTIVE MEMBER under the Firewood Vendor's Association of Nova Scotia also found under Access Nova Scotia.

Please check out what consumers say about my business and way I do things under the Nova Scotia Better Business Bureau under Customer/Consumer Reviews

WOOD ISSUE UPDATE May 28th, 2015. This noted below is very important to read. And once you do, take heed and DO THE MATH!

After receiving several calls this week about companies; and in general, wood sellers, some registered with the Registry of Firewood Vendors in Halifax and surrounding areas, and then after a conversation with Measurement Canada referencing the same, I am appalled at the response on the matter. Classified as being sold as a 'UNIT', this so called practice is way less than a proper cord by MEASUREMENT CANADA STANDARDS and Measurement Canada informs me that this is LEGAL, even though it is not a proper cord based on a STACKED CORD of 128 cubic feet. When I look at this, I see TWO STANDARDS here and sadly, YOU, THE CONSUMER, you are the ones being SCREWED ONCE MORE by the way of Government. We need CONTROLS - not people being allowed to change the rules or say, 'it is legal as long as the customer is told it is a UNIT or some other wording letting them know it is NOT a PROPER CORD, all in all, being sold 'LEGALLY LESS' than a cord and in the process of that, not using the words 'CORD or STACKED CORD' What the hell is wrong with people? And here I thought Measurement Canada wanted to make this an even playing field.

Having ONCE AGAIN checked Measurement Canada's site on Firewood, the following ARE NOT CONSIDERED AS LEGAL MEASUREMENTS pertaining to FIREWOOD. (Short Cord, Face Cord, Thrown Cord, Processed Cord (for which a UNIT CORD TRULY IS coming in between 85 to maybe 100 cubic feet), apartment cord and other amounts not listed and are TOTALLY ILLEGAL MEASUREMENTS in CANADA. So, my question is, why suddenly is Measurement Canada in Nova Scotia allowing this? In my books, it is allowing others a path to SCREW the consumer. So, be on your toes, always insist on a 'PROPER STACKED CORD AMOUNT, and above all, get your calculator out and do the math before ordering short cords as 'UNITS' or any other method of description. Remember, a guaranteed cord is 128 cubic feet. On a $300.00 cord, based on 128 cubic feet, that literally works out at $2.43 a cubic foot. On a 'UNIT'  sold, that becomes anywhere from $3.17 to $3.52 per cubic feet. So, WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF DOUBLE STANDARDS and GOVERNMENT.

franksbestbuyfirewood.blogspot.com   for the latest updates and info directly linked to Scammers and the Tricks they use. If contemplating purchasing any firewood from off of Kijiji or by any other means, it will be worth the read to see the tricks and crap that is going on in this Industry. NOTE:

AVOID BUYING ANY FIREWOOD IN WINTER. MOISTURE IN WOOD BECOMES FROZEN AND WILL APPEAR AS SOMEWHAT SEASONED. WHEN, AND IF YOU CONSIDER BUYING WOOD AFTER NOVEMBER 15TH OF ANY YEAR, INSIST ON THE WOOD BEING MOISTURE PROBED IN YOUR PRESENCE TO AVOID BEING SCAMMED ON SOMEONE MAKING THE CLAIMS THEIR WOOD IS SEASONED. IF THEY CANNOT PRODUCE A WOOD MOISTURE PROBE AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY,  AVOID BUYING WOOD AND SAVE YOUR MONEY BECAUSE 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 THE WOOD WILL BE WET OR GREEN.

IMPORTANT ADDITION: (January 22/2014 UPDATE under section #3 under insects and Infestation pertaining to Spider Mites in Wood. Follow through to #11 on section 3 part two of the summary showing pictures to the arm when bitten)

(IMPORTANT INSERTED UPDATE AS OF DEC/24/2013.)

What has happened below is very important to read when buying and burning wood in Winter.
I received an Email today, and on my return response sharing my home phone number,  a phone call from this person to me today, (December 24th/2013) who has had the misfortune  to buy wood without knowing about the 'Winter Frost Factor' in wood and by trusting the 'Bill of Goods' he was sold by the scammer.  Sadly,  a day before Christmas it was a startling revelation for the consumer learning that he not only had been taken, but had allowed himself to be the victim of  a dangerous scam that could have caused many problems for him and his family. As explained to me, having three small children and his elderly mother living with him, he was concerned of the smell he was experiencing while burning the wood. Simply put, he realized it was a danger and it was suggested he contact me. I am not a problem solver, but merely choose to try and educate people on the process of learning about burning wood and the issues that can be present when we look at taking short cuts by trying to save money while weighing the use of common sense and having others do our work for us.

There were many ways he went wrong. However, NEVER allow yourself to leave buying winter wood until the last minute. Finding the Frozen Moisture Content and the Frozen Water Content in wood is easy. The moisture probe will help, but the only sure method is by taking a piece of wood, peeling the bark off and then splitting it so that the center core of the growth rings are fully exposed. By doing this it will allow a simple test to be conducted. By using something as simple as a hair dryer or inside the home heat to expose moisture content, moisture content will be very noticeable. The moisture probe will do an actual probe and give a proper reading of the wood once the frozen content is exposed. If you have a stove going and is burning properly, place a metal grate on the top of the stove and place the wood face down on the grate within an inch or two of the top of the stove. You can tell within minutes if the wood is seasoned or not. Moisture beads will form and eventually drip on the top of the stove if the content is well about 25%. Remember, two important things here.

(1) Liquid CREOSOTE formations can and most likely will form if the burn temp is below 700 degrees Fahrenheit. In the process of this, gases will become prevalent and can cause many breathing problems for under developed lungs in young children and create further problems for the elderly who may already suffer from breathing issues.

(2) Noticing any moisture formations or content will clearly show ONLY the immediate portion of the wood. This is only an indicator that the wood HAS MOISTURE CONTENT. Then you must consider the depth of the wood, thickness, density and size of the piece, and consider that there could be as much as a cup or more of moisture in that ONE PIECE alone.

Under normal circumstances a cord of Green, Sap Cut or Spring to Summer Cut firewood will weigh approximately 5,200 to 5,400 hundred pounds or have what is commonly known as a 65% to 78% moisture factor in the ABOVE FREEZING TEMPERATURES. Properly seasoned, it will then weigh from 3,200 to 4,200 pounds depending on the type or types of firewood you may end up with. Remember, wood is a SOLID product, but moisture in wood is not considered a solid until it freezes. Looking at those numbers you will therefore be eliminating as much as 23% to sometimes as much as 30% of water or moisture from the wood. If not seasoned, remember this........upon freezing, everything expands. So it is with firewood. Also remember, some types of wood such as White Birch, Green - White and Yellow Poplar and lighter density firewood will contain MUCH MORE moisture and will lose as much as 40 to 50% of their weight upon drying. This then leaves you with a much lighter wood and low density wood that will burn two times as quick as Maple. On the other side of the coin, this can also create a much larger scale of frozen content.

The solutions are very simple. Avoid buying wood from sources that are not credible. You are asking to be burned. Buy only wood that is within proper BTU ranges of no more than 15% differentials if buying MIXED FIREWOOD. Avoid buying wood after October 15th if you are looking to burn wood safely. Remember, it takes time, proper weather, proper care and common sense to be wood wise and consumer wise.

The first nine sections of this site are now complete (#8 is of special interest and is almost complete) with only a few minor changes to be added with numbers and some punctuations. Number 9 is presently being worked on and is all about references and comments. Please keep in mind that there could still be small changes in these sections as new info becomes available and needs to be transferred or switched around.

However, if you do not like reading, most likely this is not the site for you to visit. This site is done with the idea to teach people in simple terms - yet lengthy in description and format, but very descriptive terms, and to clearly try and make the foray into the wood heating process understandable, so that all information is there if one wants to learn. For those of you who do not want to go forward, I apologize on the length. For you that do, please note that now all sections are listed as to the content within the headings of all sections to save you time.

  I Sell Tri-Maple Mix Hardwood cut & split @ $    .00 per cord.

With an addition to section #7 of this site under 'Letters to Government', you will find updated letters to both the NDP Government, and the Opposition leader, Stephen McNeil in reference to problems in this Province toward Scammers and Firewood Regulation. The letters are worth the read. It truly shows the concern of our Provincial Politicians since none have found this a concern in this Province and not worth responding to. However, in view of PAST GOVERNMENTS in this Province, why should any of these Politicians be any different? Also, I will forward you to section #9 referencing 'Testimonials' from some customers I had the pleasure to deal with this year.

Please check out my comment and reference under #9 to the right of the entry                log for all listings and proper categories.

In life there are NO easy solutions. We try counteracting this by making intelligent choices by, and based on the facts that we get proper and clear direction in our search for the proper answers. As for what is right, and for what is wrong for the Property Owner, it is he, or she, who should be the one that is in charge of making the correct decision in life as by what his, and her family needs are.

*******

And yes, we do need Government Regulation. I will also be posting a letter that was sent to the Present Government that has been shelved to my knowledge, and to the official leader of the opposition for this Province, so that you can see the content, and WHAT HAS NOT BEEN DONE TO DATE.

(1) Government Firewood Regulations are needed in Nova Scotia:

One of major problems in the Firewood Industry portion in Nova Scotia is the lack of Government Control and Enforcement. Perhaps the Minister in charge of this portfolio here in Nova Scotia has a cousin, a brother or in-law in the firewood business and really doesn't want to make ripples in the water. Most of us DO KNOW how Government for the politicians work. We will indulge this later in full. Nonetheless, they ARE DRAGGING their BUTTS on this and I do hope that those of you getting burned remember this at election time. Remember, they should be thankful that you put them there. If nothing, they OWE you for the pension they will get.

However; ONE OF THE BIGGEST instigators of the problems encountered is the advertisement of products by anyone and everyone without Proper Legal Business Names, Proper Business Locations, Proper Contact Information, Proper Phone and Email Contacts that are the openly used on the Website KNOWN as KIJIJI. Unfortunately, KIJIJI is one of the biggest offenders to you, the consumer, for being screwed over because their policies toward the consumer LITERALLY SUCK. They are there strictly to protect the subscriber to their service and if you read their policies clearly, you will see that  it is a ONE-SIDED VENUE as being their way without any HONEST INTERFERENCE.

I have had my battles with them over this and find it a VERY DISTASTEFUL SITE when it comes to AN HONEST COMPLAINT BY A CONSUMER POSTING WHAT HAPPENED WHILE GETTING SCREWED BECAUSE OF AN ADVERTISER ON THEIR SITE. Their ad is immediately DELETED and the HONEST POSTER BANNED. If there is a  COMPLAINT IN ANYWAY DIRECTED AT SOMETHING or SOMEONE FALSE UNDER THE FIREWOOD ADVERTISEMENT FORMAT, the same thing happens as they clearly say, 'YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST ANYTHING TO BE CONSTRUED AS A WARNING OR ADVICE. Supposedly being a SOCIAL and HONEST  SITE, THAT TOO IS A FRAUD.

Sadly, when these fraudulent ads; and fraudulent ads is what they are, are installed, only the people who operate these sites are privy to the real identities and contact information. They have one concern and it is not you the consumer. Their job is to extract money for advertisement because they too are a business supported by means of selling goods. They do not care if the person is legitimate, they do not care if the business is legitimate and WILL ALLOW ANYONE TO POST WITHOUT A PROPER BUSINESS NAME, PROPER ADDRESS AND PROPER HONEST INFORMATION IN GENERAL. As for the Consumer, you have ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION or RECOURSE should any of this fail. Sadly, 95% does fail and people get burned daily because of the LACK OF CONTROLS.

(2) November 29th/2012 UPDATE:  As for the picture below, well....it is me, and I am not as pretty as the tractors. However; I do tell it as it is and make an effort to give my all to the consumer, the wood and in doing do, clearly telling the truth. I now belong to the Nova Scotia Registry of Firewood Vendors Association and have a unaccredited A- Rating with the BBB. Whereas I have NOT BEEN OPERATING long enough under the new name, it appears this BBB rating will not change for a year. On top of that, I do not feel I should have to PAY for a rating whereas the BBB do not do much to help the Consumer pertaining to the Firewood Issues. However, there are no complaints and have not been any complaints levied.

Nonetheless, for your personal wood buying protection, you should seek sources that are both reliable, and from people who really know their product. For them and you - the consumer, knowing what they are speaking about and selling proper wood with proper cordage would be a bonus. My advice to anyone considering purchasing wood OFF the INTERNET using such avenues as Kijiji, Craig's List and others, PLEASE CHECK with the Nova Scotia Firewood Registry, Measurement Canada out of Halifax, The Registry of Joint Stocks also from Halifax for proper business names and credibility, and the BBB also out of Halifax before entertaining ANY of the BUSINESSES or PEOPLE ADVERTISING WOOD PRODUCTS thru these media sources THAT DO NOT USE PROPER LEGAL AND REGISTERED BUSINESS NAMES.

A few truthful comments from me:

I would like to clearly point out that I am not a seasoned writer.  I do, and will take full responsibility for any and all spelling errors, and incorrect punctuations that I have missed. My general insight and hope on the website is that you do take the time to read the whole site by categories at least once. With the content involved, along with some helpful pictures, you may find it both interesting, informative and somewhat educational in many aspects. Hoping that you do, please overlook any grammatical errors made in the text portion of the site. It is important to understand that this IS NOT about me and that there is NO FINANCIAL GAIN here for me over any of this.

(3)  Something about me, Frank Rhyno and much about wood:

My goal is to make wood education both convenient and affordable to anyone considering the purchase of wood. It is my intention to deal with issues pertaining to wood quality and the different types of winter firewood. The question of how to choose, seek out, and buy the best  winter firewood suited for your needs, should be a top priority. I will indulge in general information about wood, wood storage, proper seasoning of wood, buying seasoned wood in general,  the  common characteristics of wood, wood burning hints, delivery profiles, and the 'do’s and don'ts' - just to mention and touch on a few topics. I will deal with 'Safety  Issues' of concern and 'General Hazards' that could result from not knowing about, and/or failing to ask the correct questions about wood that you are intending to buy. These are well covered through my personal experience and other people's' experiences that I have become aware of.

I do bring a fairly vast knowledge about wood to the table. For years, it was out of sight, out of mind and not used. In some cases, my experiences with wood, and (sadly) some mishaps because of it, along with my general outlook from personal experience by using and buying wood, have taught me well. I feel my experience; whether you buy wood from me or not, can be an essential learning tool toward the best method process for you, (the consumer) on getting the best answers to your questions and on obtaining the better quality wood for those hard earned dollars. If you consider wood as an alternative heat source, a helpful secondary heat source, or you may be planning to spend or invest in upgrades, this site could be very helpful in aiding with your decisions. It is important to remember that ‘a good looking deal on the outside’ may in all actuality 'not be a good deal on the inside once completed.'

Please understand the following: I do not operate as a large company, or hide behind the structural shield of being a Limited Corporation. I choose to operate and function as an individual offering what I feel is an essential honest service. I choose to do it as an individual by choice. The information herein contained, is designed to be a guide in helping you get the best wood for your hard earned dollars and avoid problems. It will also assist you in securing the important information needed to make your wood buying and burning experience a knowledgeable one. Along with that, I hope it can make a difference through the many points disclosed, and that relate to safety, when it comes to wood, and the burning of wood. The MOST IMPORTANT point that ANYONE should understand is that you NEVER BUY ANYTHING from ANYONE not divulging the most IMPORTANT facts of who they are, their business name and location, proper address and working addresses, contact phone numbers, legal business name as recognized by the Province of Nova Scotia, or from wherever you reside, and last of all, full disclosure by written contract on what it is that you are negotiating to buy.

(4) My location:

My base of operation is located up on Canaan Mountain  about 5 miles from New Minas. I am located 60 odd miles west of Halifax, N.S. I am somewhat in the middle of a dying farming community that once thrived. Sadly, and in the role of the world dealing with progress, many people forget that farming was the key to what we enjoy today. I offer service to most of the area within 75 to 100 miles of here. I offer the same service and quality to everyone. I do not cut corners, and definitely will not play the 'special favours' and 'bargaining game' pertaining to making special deals. I pride myself on having one price - that price being the same for all. I will not give one person a better price than another. Before I would do that, I would choose to lose your business. And no matter what, I will maintain that price fairly to everyone. I will further that as I also DO NOT negotiate on wood, and/or delivery charges.

Now, as for me personally, there is not really much to tell about me or what I do as a business. However, having been around wood since childhood, well over 5 decades ago, my years have taught me well about wood.Well into my 60's, I do not do it as a living, but more for fun, exercise and enjoyment than anything. My foray again into wood came from being gouged from people posing as cutters and processors. These were people who were only interested in taking me for a quick buck and giving little in return.

This is my wood processor, hydraulic feed table and operating tractor to the machine and conveyor.

I had given a lot of thought to this before putting my services up and out to the public. I remember speaking with one lady last year from Dartmouth who had much in common with me about getting gouged. I ended up conversing with her for some time before she was satisfied. Once the delivery was tendered, the idea came in full view about selling to the public. Not only was she surprised by the amount of wood dropped, she was very clear that the people she had been buying from for the past five years were definitely short changing her. I will not go into that in detail, but she was very clear on how disappointed she was.

(5) About my Website:

My plan is to try and educate you on what experience in wood and wood issues have taught me over the years. It has been a learning process for me since I was a youngster. I have been involved in cutting wood in the forest, buying wood from suppliers and cutters, and above all, sharing information with you that is not always made readily available.  If you take the time to browse all of the Web categories enclosed, you will find a vast amount of information that will aid and assist you in making the best overall decisions about Winter Fire Wood. By doing so, you will also find that the wood buying experience itself, stoves, chimneys and delivery issues, can, and will save you money in the long run, and in many other ways. You may also find this information very helpful in avoiding scams and incorrect cordage on deliveries through many of the so-called deals that are offered everywhere.

Please feel free to contact me with any of your questions or specific queries using any of the enclosed  contacts. Our return policy on contact through phone calls and e-mails is usually early mornings or late evenings, with a full response usually within 24 hours.

I feel the information enclosed throughout this site will become a very important tool for you, the consumer. I ask only that you read all, whereas all sections do refer to each other section in some manner. Skipping what you feel is unimportant, and may not relate to you now, could be tossing out important fact that one could later regret. It is not my intention to pin point any one person, or business in telling the facts as they are. However, I clearly define all that I do hope will be helpful in the long term. What brought this web site about is the continual bombardment of people being ripped off under the many scams, schemes and offers to sell wood. If I do insult anyone by speaking my mind and telling it as I see it, please consider that it is not my plan to apologize. I am speaking for those people, (including  myself) who have been mistreated in the past, and for those who do not understand the ins and outs, pertaining to Firewood in all general characteristics.

Before reading through this website, please understand that I am not a  Licensed Wet Installer, Fire Department Official, or anyone that could be   placed, or considered to be in the position Wood Stove Technician or Professional in any of those categories. Should the issue of Professional Advice on any matters of, or relating to the stove, stove pipe installation, chimney installation, concerns of direct safety violations and/or questions pertaining to fire, or its household prevention on a professional manner, please be advised to contact the Fire Department, Your Insurance Company Underwriter or Broker, or anyone in the category that is legally qualified and licensed to respond to your concerns.

This web site is about WOOD, The Quality of WOOD, The best Methods to buy wood, Deliveries, Short Cordage to buyers and information to help you better understand some of the wood scams being perpetrated. It will also deal with many of the Hazards that can be associated with incorrect knowledge about wood, both by the seller and buyer, and what can happen through ignorance and negligence. In general,  the information throughout the site is designed to help you in deciding what is the best wood and how to go about purchasing it, burning it and most of all, to keep you from getting burned when buying wood.

This will also deal with related issues that I have experienced, as  well as others in the many years involved with burning and buying wood. PLEASE do not misunderstand any of my suggestions,  in,  and under the HAZARD section, or any other category, as a means of dealing with an emergency in case of fire. THE WHOLE IDEA of this website is education and preparing you for the worst, while clearly pointing out, and dwelling on SAFETY and PREVENTION OF FIRE THROUGH  SOMEONE ELSE'S EXPERIENCES.

As in any heating process, and, as is written repeatedly, this is about SAFETY, buying and burning good wood. Continued safety for your family and home is a main concern of mine. HOW NOT to get burned by the ever flourishing 'SO CALLED' fantastic deals that many wood sellers seem to be offering on a daily and weekly basis though Kijiji and other locals, is a concern of mine. Simply put - AS A WOOD BUYER, YOU MUST ALWAYS BEWARE, and BE WOOD WISE!

(6)DECEMBER 20th/2012 UPDATE:

The major concern with this upcoming year 2013, will be to introduce ways for you, the consumer, to protect yourself when buying wood. I do this because I feel there is a need out there due to the ever growing number of people selling garbage wood, scamming people, and taking advantage of people while NOT KNOWING anything in general about what it is that they are selling other than finding a way to steal your money. Sadly, while the Elected Government YOU PUT THERE sits on their padded asses at our expense and does nothing to protect you from these money hungry crooks, the problem only worsens.

In the next 12 months I will be making simple additions to this website and transferring a considerable amount of the information contained as I straighten up and redo the info contained. After many letters, many complaints on people scammed and much new to be added info on wood and issues, I do feel the necessity  of redoing the whole website in hopes of making it much better, more informative and more in line, as well as detailed in many of the areas of concern you have contacted me about.

I will be going more in depth on scamming practices and will be posting a proposal that I have been in contact with on the Provincial Government side suggesting regulation to the firewood industry. It is a method of controls and a positive manner in which to protect the public from the scammers and crooked practices of the shenanigans who seem to pop up daily on Kijiji and other places WITHOUT LEGAL BUSINESS NAMES, PROPER CONTACT INFORMATION and MANY OF THE PAST PROVEN EXPERIENCES that have defrauded many of you out of money for product that was delivered being inadequate and proper in quality and measurement.

To further this information, I will go back on something I did not want to do in these changes. Many people have contacted me on PROPER CORDING, What would be considered fair pricing for wood offered through the ever growing wood ads and people selling wood, what is certain cords of wood worth to buy and how do I know if the price quoted is fair for the quality of the wood I am being sold. These will be just a few of the info changes and I will be emphasizing much in the way of the advertisement and name practices that many use while trying to avoid the AFTER SERVICE or SELLING ISSUES.

(7) WHAT DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT WOOD and THE BUYING OF  FIREWOOD?
The first lesson anyone needs to learn about wood is about PRICE OF IT WHEN COMPARED TO THE QUALITY YOU ARE GETTING . Many people....many prices. SADLY, THE BIGGER THE DEAL, THE LESSER THE QUALITY. IT IS A PROVEN FACT THAT CHEAP PRICED WOOD 99% OF THE TIME WILL BE MIXED WOOD OF MANY COMBINATIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CORD IN CUBIC FEET  YOU WILL BE SHORT CORDED BECAUSE OF IMPROPER CUTTING AND CORDING. The past experiences with people have taught me that. FREE DELIVERY COMES WITH THE PRICE TAG OF BEING SHORT CORDED.

Remember that ANY GUARANTEES are ONLY AS GOOD as the WORD of the people and business committing to that WARRANTY. If they ARE NOT a LEGALLY REGISTERED BUSINESS with the FIREWOOD VENDORS REGISTRY of NOVA SCOTIA, THE REGISTRY of JOINT STOCKS in NOVA SCOTIA, The BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU of NOVA SCOTIA, ON RECORD WITH MEASUREMENT CANADA OUT OF HRM (DARTMOUTH) AS HAVING 'NO COMPLAINTS', this will reduce all chances you will have on getting a fair and proper shake when it comes to buying from anyone outside of the PROTECTED BOUNDARIES of the PROVINCE.

However, smart people with smart money DO NOT BUY CHEAP WOOD from NO NAME UNREGISTERED PEOPLE and BUSINESSES THAT DO NOT HAVE A PROVEN RECORD WITH :
THE FIREWOOD VENDORS REGISTRY of NOVA SCOTIA on-line under ACCESS NOVA SCOTIA, MEASUREMENT CANADA out of DARTMOUTH -1-902-426-3831,
THE N.S. BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU,
THE REGISTRY OF JOINT STOCKS (also on line) TO SEE IF THEY TRULY ARE A BUSINESS,
THE RCMP and POLICE IN YOUR AREA FOR PAST and PRESENT SCAMS UNDER THE NAME AND FOR PROPER LOCATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR EXISTENCE.

What is my goal when it comes to supplying, delivering and helping you to understand exactly what it is that you need to know about wood?
That is simple: I want to be able to help educate you on all of the following:

(a) Do you know the best wood to buy for your heating needs?
(b) Do you really know which wood is the best to buy?
(c) How do you know you are getting the wood you agreed to purchase?
(d) Do you know how the volume or cordage is calculated on a load or truck?
(e) Are you familiar with the terminologies to what some wood suppliers call "Seasoned Wood, Firewood, Hardwood, Mixed Wood, Kitchen Cut Wood, Heating Stove Wood"? If not, learn them before buying wood.
(f-1) Do you know the best time periods to buy fresh or green cut wood?
(f-2) Do you know the difference between WINTER CUT WOOD and ALL SEASONAL CUT FIREWOOD when it comes to moisture content and sap run? YOU NEED TO KNOW.
(f-3) Do you have a MOISTURE PROBE METER? If not, do insist to the seller that you want one present and on the truck so you can do the moisture test in person BEFORE BUYING THE WOOD. (your goal is buying wood under 40% if you want to burn it safely the same year.)
(g) Are you familiar with drying terms such as air stacking, loose stacking, wind-rowing, tight piling, and covered piling?
(h) Do you know the up and down sides of buying and burning mixed wood?
(i) Are you really familiar with safe burning practices using wood as a form of heat?
(j) When ordering wood, do you really know the correct questions that you should be asking - such as: What is cubic foot measuremant pertaining to a cord? What is a loose cord? What is a stacked cord? And most of all; how will I know that I am actually getting what I agreed to purchase in (winter firewood or winter hardwood) quality and quantity?
(k) Have you considered the type of insects and larvae that can be found in different wood that is both pre-cut, laying on the ground and sold off last years wood?

(9) Understanding costs involved in processing your own wood:

Please note: The actual breakdown of costing the process of buying your own wood in 8 to 16 foot lengths, cutting and splitting it will actually be posted under another section between 6 and number 8. This section IS NOT completed yet and when it is, there will be a page and section noted here.

As difficult as this may be for some to believe, records do indicate that the actual term 'CORD of WOOD' originated early in the 17th Century. Where originally and why, that is still open for many discussions. Nonetheless, the cord was comprised of a simply philosophy or method being that of a product measurement of 128 cubic feet or (3.62 cubic meters) for those of you into the metric conversion. No matter, and either way, the mathematics actually works out to about the same. For centuries the term 'CORD of WOOD' has been bantered about in many ways when it comes to selling, as some people classify (FIREWOOD) and others use the PROPER TERM 'WINTER HARDWOOD.' The difference is simple. BE CAREFUL FOR WHAT YOU ASK FOR since many use the FIREWOOD TERMINOLOGY in the wrong scope.

It is important to remember the proper definition of firewood is simple: (WOOD FOR FUEL or USED AS FUEL)The issue for you should be which is the best wood and how to ask for it. Remember, hardwood is classified by many as firewood. Also, many will classify a  combination of several woods as being anything from White Birch, Green - Yellow - and White Poplar.....(not to be confused with Balsam Poplar or Black Poplar as it is known) Alder Tree, Apple Tree Wood, Elm, Beech, Hemlock, Spruce, Fir, Pine and the list can go on UNLESS you clearly specify what you do and do not want as a burning fuel. Always keep in mind the Kindling Temperature and Density of the wood you choose.

The definition of Hardwood clarified is (the number or kind of hard compact density broadleaved dicotyledonous trees in this category). Many fall into this category. However, many that are predominately sold as FIREWOOD DO NOT fall into this category. For the consumer, requesting a specific type of firewood in the form of (PROPER HARDWOOD TERM) will be the best solution for to resolve your fuel burning and heating issues.

How, and what is the proper way to address the question? That is also simple. LEARN WOOD TERMINOLOGY when ordering or asking about wood. If you cannot get the answers you want, or feel is correct, go on a fact finding mission and learn before ordering wood and spending your money. It is important to remember this, whether you buy it whole in 8 foot pieces or bigger, come the end of the day, and if you cut, split and process it yourself, that 'so called cord of wood' when cut, WILL NOT BE A PROPER CUT AND SPLIT CORD. Before you began, it was a cord, but only in the sense that it was UNPROCESSED. No matter how you cut it and pile it, it will still only pile when cut to 68 to 70% of a Proper Standard Ground Cord as set by Measurement Canada after the CUTTING and PROCESSING procedure has taken place.

We address the costs of home processing further throughout this website, and in doing so, keep in mind that when you are done with a cord of UNPROCESSED WOOD, it is still only 68 to 70% of what you think you will end up with. This also makes the cost of wood, verses the volume as a process of thought when buying wood from anyone, a very expensive experience IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY ON HOW TO ASK FOR WOOD.

On top of that, I will endeavour to try and make all of the points clear on learning about wood in general, firewood in general, correct cording of wood - both ways by processed and unprocessed, a trip through moisture levels in wood, BTU ratings, wet and seasoned wood weights. It is important to show you the amount of water in wood, the comparisons to other fuel sources pertaining to monies saved and lost. Improper burning of wood that could be hazardous to your health, chemicialized woods and pallet burning are issues of major concern because of chemicialization within ANY of these wood products.  CREOSOTE, other hazards connected to poor wood and mixed firewood combinations, seasoning of wood, delivery of wood, how to protect yourself when buying wood from sellers, and last of all, tips on SCAMMERS and CHEATERS about the things they do that affect you, should be a major concern to you as well.

(10) Simply facts on basic summary!

If you have managed to go through this and understand it and you have questions still unanswered, I strongly suggest reading the whole website. The information is all there and if you take the time to read it, you can also be smart enough NOT TO GET SCREWED OVER by sellers and scammers who count on your ignorance while avoiding the task of learning. Remember, 'trust is like respect.....it is something you earn.' As true honest people, we do not and cannot by respect at the local five and dime. If your current wood supplier is not earning both of these, you do have a problem. If you have doubts in trust when it comes to buying from him or they, you have a bigger problem. To find the solutions, please read through the whole website at least one time to give you at least a fighting chance.
